Put simply, an IVA is a legal procedure which was introduced for people in financial difficulty who have unsecured debts and are unable to make the contractual monthly payments. An IVA typically lasts five years and you pay what is affordable on a monthly basis (can be weekly or four weekly) and thereafter any remaining unsecured debt is written off.
IVA’s were originally introduced to help the self-employed avoid bankruptcy and continue trading and so they are an ideal debt solution for the self-employed. It is a completely different to bankruptcy and is geared towards allowing you to continue to trade.
An IVA is an alternative to bankruptcy, which if accepted can safeguard your property from your unsecured creditors trying to put charges on your property which could ultimately lead to repossession There are agreed rules regarding your property in an IVA which may result in your IVA being extended by 12 months to six years rather than five years.

An Insolvency Practitioner is highly qualified and regulated and generally does not charge up-front fees which should give you the peace of mind to accept their advice. Only a licensed Insolvency Practitioner (IP) can take IVA appointments and become the Supervisor of an IVA and generally, if someone is not a licensed IP, they must be regulated by the FCA to give you insolvency advice.
I was struggling to make ends meet for over 4 years in a debt management plan. Things seemed to get no better until I got in touch with Shawcross Williams. They helped me through the whole process and I was approved for an IVA in just 6 weeks! I can now relax and look forward to the day that I am debt free
I had creditors calling me every day and the situation was causing me so much stress. I wouldn’t have been able to cope without Andy’s help. He looked after me and made sure my IVA was approved with the minimum of fuss.
The best news is that the creditor calls have stopped so I don’t have to worry every time the phone rings
Shawcross WIlliams are fantastic. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. They made me feel relaxed and were always available to support me and guide me through the more complicated parts of the IVA. Thank you so much!
